|October 18-20, 2013
Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
When is this reunion? The weekend of October 18th, 19th and 20th, 2013.
Let it be known that the main focus of the weekend is to provide opportunities for people to meet former school mates and staff, to share stories about the “good old days” and to hear what has transpired in the last few decades since we have left the hallowed halls of Linwood School! We are hoping that since we have had such a long winter in Winnipeg this year that the summer will follow suit, well into October!
Friday, October 18th will see a couple of events on the offering. From 4:30 to 6:30 pm, the school will be open for alumni, former staff and the community. The “Open House” starts at 4:30 outside the front doors of Linwood School, rain or shine, with formal greetings from the usual characters (and a few unusual characters) and there will be a couple of commemorative unveilings to celebrate the 100th year for Linwood School. After this will be opportunities for self-guided tours of the Linwood School tall halls and possibly the Annex! You should visit the decade rooms that have been graciously set up by the present students of Linwood School and take in a couple of musical presentations by the Linwood School Choir in the Auditorium. The gym will be set up for casual conversation and birthday cake along with school memorabilia being available for your reminiscing pleasure! For those that are young-at-heart, there will be games and interactive stations for your amusement! All of these Friday school events are free of charge.
The next afternoon on Saturday, October 19th we would like to see you at the Linwood School Tea, a long-standing tradition at Linwood School. We will have the tea in the main gymnasium from 1 to 3 pm. This event is open to alumni, former staff and the general community. There will be some special guest pourers and servers from past teachers and principals to past students; don’t worry, if you are not a tea drinker, there will be other beverages available! Proceeds from the silver collection will go towards the schoolyard beautification project.
Saturday evening will see alumni and former staff at the Holiday Inn Winnipeg-Airport West on Portage Ave (formerly the Birchwood Inn) for a sit down dinner and dance; hey, if you just want to sit and talk the whole night, that’s OK too! This event will start at 6 pm and, for those diehards in the crowd, will finish at 1 am. We have some live entertainment planned that should bring back some memories. The charge for this event will be $75 and includes a complimentary drink ticket at the cash bar.
The next morning, Sunday, October 20th will be the Farewell Pancake Breakfast back in the gym at Linwood School for alumni and former staff. We don’t want to start too early (for those night hawks) so we are having a 9:30 am opening. Pancakes and sausages with a good morning beverage are on the menu. Conversation will be the main course. The charge for this event will be $10. Don’t forget to say hi to the celebrity flippers; the gym will be serving up food until around 11:30 am and the venue will close at 12:30 pm.
So there you have it. If you participate in all of the activities, for only $100 per person, you will have a weekend for the ages. How often does an opportunity like this come around?! Say about every 100 years or so?
If you are coming in from afar and are planning on staying at a hotel, consider the Holiday Inn Airport West; it is providing a special rate of $119 per night if you mention that you are attending the Linwood School 100th Reunion. This hotel is located at the corner of Portage Ave and Moray St, just 5 minutes from the school!
Name tags will be available for pick-up at the Social evening or the first event that you attend after this.
Please download and print the formal registration form (found as a pdf attachment on this web-site) and sent it and your cheque to the address at the bottom of that form.
Hope to see you in October before the snow flies!

Thank you - to all who attended the reunion and helped make it a great success!!
The success of any school reunion depends on those who attend and enjoy the company of old friends, teachers, and classmates. This weekend was a great example of this comradeship.
You made our job worthwhile!
